On Saturday April 24th, the Town of Hartwick will hold its "2010 Hartwick Clean Sweep" event. The "Roadside Clean-Up" will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Residents can also take advantage of the on-going "Recycling Program" and "Scrap Metal Collection."
New this year and with the help of Edison Computers in Oneonta, the Town will be recycling used electronics such as TVs, VCRs, computers, printers and microwave ovens. A nominal fee will be charged for this service.
The town is conducting a pilot program designating a location near the Community Garden for compostable, biodegradable leaves and brush. There can be no rocks or trash mixed in.
There will also be a Rummage Sale taking place in the Hartwick Community Center on Saturday from 9AM - 4PM. Anyone who would like to set up a table to sell items, please contact the Town Hall.
Volunteers will be on hand to pick up bulky items. Please call the Town Hall to arrange for pick up. If you have a pickup truck or utility trailer and would like to donate your time, please call.
Town Supervisor, Pat Ryan said, "The past two years' events were very successful. Many residents participated demonstrating the great pride we have in Hartwick." The Supervisor encourages people interested in the road-side clean-up to register early and obtain necessary event details. "We have a fact sheet that we can provide that describes event details, what to bring and wear, how to collect and dispose of trash, and the safety guidelines." Any individual or group interested in participating is asked to call Town Board Member Juli Sharratt at 293-7324.
Some teams have already registered, however, groups and individuals can also just show-up at the Town Hall on Saturday at 9 AM to pick-up supplies, free gifts and receive additional instructions. Individuals can work alone or ask to be placed on an existing team. Free trash bags will be provided by the Town and once roadside litter is collected, full bags can be left along the road to be collected by volunteers or bags of roadside litter can be brought to a dumpster located at the Town Hall. The town cautions residents not to dispose of household trash during this event since only road-side litter will be accepted.
